A poison is any product or substance that can harm someone if it is used in the wrong way, by the wrong person, or in the wrong amount. Essential oils can be poisons!

Special Circumstances

 

Pregnancy

In Essential Oil Safety Second Edition, 48 essential oils are listed that should be avoided in pregnancy (p152), and a further 14 are listed that should be used in restricted amounts (p156). The “avoid” list includes some oils commonly used in aromatherapy, such as Cinnamon bark, Carrot seed, Fennel, Myrrh and Oregano.

NAHA will be adopting similar guidelines as the International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists. The guidelines may be found on the Pregnancy Safety page.
